Message From the Acting Director

The Crime Victims Fund (the Fund) remains the cornerstone upon which support for victim services rests. Administered by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the Fund provides help, hope, and healing to millions of victims each year, mainly through funding for programs that provide direct assistance to help victims rebuild their lives and compensation to reimburse them for financial losses resulting from their victimization.

In fiscal years (FY) 2015 and 2016, nearly $5.5 billion supported a variety of critical victim services, from emergency food and shelter to crisis counseling and legal support. OVC is appreciative of Congress’s commitment to funding victim services. We are committed more than ever to supporting programs that provide direct services, build capacity in the field, conduct research and evaluation, spur innovation, and reach underserved victims. The 2017 OVC Report to the Nation provides an overview of how OVC administers the Fund and of many OVC programs, projects, and initiatives that helped victims heal.
