This grant award made to Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office (HCSO), is funded under OVC FY 2020 Law Enforcement-Based Victim Specialist Program Purpose Area 3: Large Agency, which is designed to develop or enhance and sustain crime victim specialist programs within law enforcement agencies and better coordinate services to victims to more quickly and more effectively serve the victim assistance and compensation needs of all crime victims and inform them of their rights as crime victims. Under this project, the HCSO will establish a law enforcement-based Victim Specialist Program to ensure victims are connected to assistance and resources after a crime. The Victim Specialist Program will provide comprehensive victim services including: reaffirm victims' rights and providing information pertaining to victims' rights; supporting victims and families after a crime by connecting them to victim assistance organizations; establishing and deepening relationships with community partners that provide specialized victims services to expand allowable victims services; and providing a liaison between the HCSO and victims and their families.
