Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $825,000)

This grant award made to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBCSO) is funded under OVC FY 2020 Law Enforcement-Based Victim Specialist Program Purpose Area 3: Large Agency, which is designed to develop or enhance and sustain crime victim specialist programs within law enforcement agencies and better coordinate services to victims to more quickly and more effectively serve the victim assistance and compensation needs of all crime victims and inform them of their rights as crime victims. Under this award, PBCSO and project partners will to create a trauma informed, victim centered Violent Crime Advocacy Collaboration that will support two full time Victim Advocates assigned to the VCD. The project will also provide immediate advocacy and related victim services; collaborate with community partners to meet the individualized needs of victims; and promote community awareness and engagement. Through this project, victim service utilization rates will increase; victims of violent crime will experience better short and long-term outcomes; crime reporting, participation in the criminal justice system, and ultimately public safety will improve; collaboration will expand; and job satisfaction for the VCD Detectives will improve.
