This grant award made to the City of Paterson, is funded under OVC FY 2020 Law Enforcement-Based Victim Specialist Program Purpose Area 2: Mid-Sized Agency, which is designed to develop or enhance and sustain crime victim specialist programs within law enforcement agencies and better coordinate services to victims to more quickly and more effectively serve the victim assistance and compensation needs of all crime victims and inform them of their rights as crime victims. The goal of this project is to support the emotional, psychological, and physical needs of all victims within the City of Paterson by establishing a dedicated victim support program. The program will address the needs of victims through provision of appropriate navigational services by an experienced, civilian Victim Witness Advocate (VWA) embedded in the Paterson Police Department. The VWA will assure there are no lapses in coordination between the time of the crime, identification of impacted victims (including collateral victims), and the provision of appropriate information, services, and/or linkages to
