National Domestic Violence Hotline Answers 6 Million Contacts

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (Hotline) offers support for victims of intimate partner violence. Since 1996, the OVC-supported Hotline has been available 24/7/365 for anyone who needs help.

The Hotline, which is available via phone, text, or online chat, recently received their 6 millionth contact. The 6 millionth contact was a chat, answered by a digital advocate, from a woman in Ohio experiencing a complex abusive situation.

This milestone underscores the importance of the Hotline’s remarkable work in reaching and empowering victims of intimate partner violence across the country and highlights the urgent and increasing need for their services.

To contact the Hotline, call 800–799–SAFE (7233), TTY 800–787–3224, text "START" to 88788, or use their live chat. Trained advocates are available to provide support, connect users with resources, and create hope for a safer future.

In FY 2020, OVC awarded the Hotline $1.5 million to enhance and expand digital services and upgrade its provider database to track the availability of shelter beds nationwide.
